This American made shelf clock was built between 1783 and 1815 in the New England states. It has all wooden works.
During this period the US and England were at odds and it was impossible to obtain metal clock movements.  The Mount Vernon reversed painting was
replaced and the clock sustained much shipping damage.  This Federal Style, popularized in England by the Adams brothers and widely circulated by Sheraton  and Hepplewhite books.  In America, since this period began at the close of the colonial era, classical revival furniture and architecture is popularly called the Federal style.
