Dear Mr. & Mrs. Smith, |
Thank you for the opportunity to research history on your Carved Four Poster Bed . The following has been discovered. |
Circa late 1920's with no labeling available. It is quite evident, based on design and quality of construction, to be a 1850's Federal style reproduction. Although not as ornamented as some Federal patterns, this bed was popularized by the Prudent Mallard Co. of New Orleans and is seen in many Antiques & Collectible pattern books and is listed in Schroeders Pricing Guide. |
The bed ranks with top of the line quality furniture such as Heyward / Wakefield. This poster bed manufactured of combinations of hard woods, maple and oak, sold for approx. $150 to $250, quite expensive for the time. During World War II, in the mid 40's, there was limited production. With all domestic products in short supply and rationing in full swing, a bed of this quality, in good condition easily sold for $350. Although not yet an antique, here at Lucille's, collectors of this era will invest as much as $2,200 if in top original restored condition. |

Again, thank you for choosing Lucille's to assist in your furniture appraisal and restoration needs. |

Best regards. |
